See and Do, See and Renew: How to Disseminate and Implement Educational Experiments and Initiatives in Israel’s Education System: The Contribution of the Retrospective Method of Learning from Success

The mission of the Division of Experiments and Initiatives at Israel’s Ministry of Education is to contribute to innovation in the education system. It does so by providing a nurturing environment for the development of innovative educational initiatives that derive from various schools and are disseminated and implemented throughout the system.

The main goal of this book is to create a systematic knowledge for the dissemination and implementation of innovative knowledge. Such knowledge may serve the many organizations concerned with disseminating educational and social programs. This book is the result of the study and practice of two partners: the Ministry of Education’s Division of Experiments and Initiatives and the Unit for Learning from Success in the Myers-JDC-Brookdale Institute.

The raw material for the book is a series of “stories of success” that had led to effective processes of first disseminating knowledge and then of implementing it in additional contexts. Staff members of the dissemination centers and the Division were questioned about how they had succeeded by means of the LFS method of enquiry. The method was developed in the Myers-JDC-Brookdale Institute’s Unit for Learning for Success and Ongoing Learning in Human Services and has been applied in a wide range of organizations. From the stories of success were distilled principles of action that contributed to the success.

The intention is not to simply replicate a specific model developed at an experimental school but to apply the innovative knowledge that emerges in a way that is consistent with the character and the vision of the institution to which it is disseminated.

The book has already played a considerable role in crystallizing the practices of the Dissemination centers. Success will in itself become part of the processes of their further learning and development.
