MJB Board member Marshall Weinberg announced his intention to donate a seven figure sum to the Myers-JDC-Brookdale Institute.
Veteran MJB Board member and founder of the the Marshall Weinberg Fund for Professional Collaboration and Development at the Institute surprised the Committee with his dramatic announcement: "I have informed the JDC that because of my increasing confidence in the importance of the Myers-JDC-Brookdale Institute, I will leave 5 million dollars to the Institute."
Myers-JDC-Brookdale Board Chair Martin Paisner thanked Mr. Weinberg for this generous gift to the Institute's endowment fund that will help ensure the financial viability of the Institute in the years to come, saying that the members of the committee were extremely impressed and inspired by Mr. Weinberg's vision and leadership.
The news of this generous commitment was also announced to the Board of Directors of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee where JDC Board Chairman Dr. Irving Smokler paid tribute to Weinberg, saying that he has been a leading member of the JDC Board who has contributed to the JDC in so many ways.
The Marshall Weinberg Fund for Professional Collaboration and Development at the Institute serves to encourage international exchange and cooperation, and, no less importantly, to strengthen the Institute as an organization. This Fund reflects Mr. Weinberg's unique kind of philanthropy and foresight as a capacity builder.
Smolker congratulated Mr. Weinberg on his generosity and his very special understanding of the importance of the Myers-JDC-Brookdale Institute to the State of Israel, to Diaspora Jewry and to the work of the JDC in Israel and throughout the world.
