On February 22, 2017, MJB Director Prof. Jack Habib was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award for Contributions to Social Policy in Israel by ESPAnet Israel, the national association for social policy research.
The statement of the award committee:
The prize is given to a person who has made a unique contribution to advancing social policy in Israel.
Prof. Jack Habib is awarded this honor for his professional activity over more than four decades.
The majority of Prof. Habib's work has focused on the development and advancement of social policy.
His research has encompassed a broad range of social issues, with special emphasis on advancing opportunities for disadvantaged populations.
He has been a path-breaking leader in promoting the use of applied research on social policy and services to raise awareness of social challenges that previously received little attention.
Prof. Habib has devoted the majority of his professional career to the development of the Myers-JDC-Brookdale Institute over the past 40 years.
Through the Institute, he has created effective partnerships with government ministries, the Knesset, JDC-Israel, third sector organizations, and more to promote social welfare.
The work has had a significant impact on Israeli social policy over a period of decades - on research, on the development of professional leadership, on promoting evidence-based public discourse in the field of social policy, and on the reform of social policy itself.
We wish him best wishes for his continued work and contribution.
Founded in 2003, ESPAnet Israel is dedicated to research on social welfare and social policy both in Israel and internationally. The members of ESPAnet Israel include academics, researchers, professionals, and policymakers.
The award ceremony was held as part of ESPAnet Israel's annual national conference held at Bar Ilan University in Tel Aviv.
