The team was established in recognition of the fact that socioeconomic mobility is a cornerstone of national resilience and of Israel’s social and economic prosperity. The team operates through an interdisciplinary model that relies on close collaboration with our government partners and a strategic partnership with academia – particularly with the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.
This unique integration of applied research and academic excellence enables the team to make pioneering use of large-scale administrative data to analyze full life-course trajectories – from childhood through adulthood – and to identify the critical transition points at which inequalities emerge. When such data are not available, the team initiates dedicated surveys that provide an in- depth understanding of the circumstances and well-being of diverse population groups in Israel.
The team’s work addresses key junctures of life in Israel. It examines how early educational achievements predict future employment outcomes and identifies the unique barriers that prevent different population groups from translating educational achievement into commensurate income. In addition, and in light of the Israel-Hamas War, the team is deeply engaged in the national effort to monitor the war’s impact on mental health and on social and economic resilience, particularly among those directly affected, with the goal of providing decision-makers with insights to support the design of safety nets and tailored services for those impacted.
