Collection of Research Findings Generated by the Ministry of Welfare and Social Affairs’ Rehabilitation, Support and Prevention Administration, 2016–2023

Background

The sharing of research knowledge by social service professionals is necessary to implement evidence-based practice and research. Over the years, the Senior Division for Research, Planning and Training at the Ministry of Welfare and Social Affairs (herein: the Ministry of Welfare) has initiated numerous studies that were conducted by research institutes and academic institutions. This knowledge has not been sufficiently accessible to professionals, and therefore it has not been used on a large scale. The Rehabilitation, Support, and Prevention Administration (RSPA) within the Ministry of Welfare is responsible for providing therapeutic and social supervision services, rehabilitation, and prevention for various populations, such as juvenile offenders; and individuals involved in addiction, prostitution, or criminal behavior or those at risk of entering these situations. The RSPA is also responsible for providing services to families in divorce conflicts and dealing with domestic violence.

The collection

The RSPA and the Senior Division for Research, Planning, and Training requested that the Myers-JDC-Brookdale Institute prepare a collection of all the research knowledge generated by the RSPA in recent years. The goal is to make the research findings accessible to professionals in the services under the administration’s responsibility for the purposes of learning and improvement of services.

The collection includes studies in the RSPA’s areas of intervention that were initiated by the Ministry of Welfare during the period 2016–2023, as well as academic research towards master’s and doctoral degrees that were conducted with the approval of the Ministry of Welfare in those areas during that period. The collection is organized according to the RSPA units and target populations, and each study is summarized, with emphasis on the main findings and practical recommendations for professionals in the field. Whenever possible, a link to the full study is included.

Each chapter begins with a general summary that includes the following: characteristics and needs of the population discussed in the chapter; major challenges and barriers identified in the research; and practical recommendations.

The collection will assist the professionals in the RSPA to delve deeper into the issues in their field of practice, become familiar with best practices and learn about additional content areas that are related to their practice. Also, professionals who begin their role in the RSPA services will be able to get to know the field they are entering better and combine the existing practice with the recommendations emerging from the studies in the field.
