On April 2, 2020, the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies, the World Health Organization and the European Commission launched a new online platform providing stakeholders with evidence of how health systems around the world are responding to the pandemic – the COVID-19 Health System Response Monitor (HSRM). Representatives from European and Asian countries were engaged to report on the responses to the pandemic in their country, including examples and measures that can inspire and be adapted in real time to save lives in other countries.
“This tool is a breakthrough resource for health system decision-makers tackling the pandemic,” says Dr Hans Henri P. Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe. “By mapping and analyzing country narratives on response and providing essential data and evidence on COVID-19, the platform will be of real value to those who are responding to the crisis and seeking to mitigate its far-reaching consequences.”
MJB research scholar Ruth Waitzberg was invited to serve as Israel’s representative and write the country’s report, and together with two fellow researchers from MJB, Dr. Shuli Brammli-Greenberg and Nadav Penn, they have been presenting Israel’s response to the pandemic. They work in close cooperation with the Ministry of Health, senior professionals in the health system and academics. The report updates the developments on an almost daily basis. The professional platform is the first of its kind to narrate the Israeli response and it presents Israel’s groundbreaking efforts in the management of the crisis.
